A Study of Students' Engagement and Students' Speaking Skill: A Correlational Research

Students' active engagement institutes the fundamental of procedure learning and teaching in student-centered classroom. The objective this research aimed to investigate correlation between students' speaking skills eighth grade SMP Negeri 18 Krui Academic Year 2021/2022. researchers used a quantitative approach as design study. eighth-grade students were population research, consisting 26 sample. employed purposive sampling technique for determining data on was collected using questionnaire, which adapted from (Appleton et al., 2006), test. In addition, test questionnaire collect data. After collecting found that there 20 (77%) who had high activity with mean score 69.61, 24 (94%) fairly good skill 64.04. findings also showed coefficient 0.680. Therefore, quite high, concluded Engagement Speaking Skills at Eight Grade SMPN 2021/2022".
